What do we do with this estate?
The estate is managed in a modern way today. Although there is still a lot to be done.

The forest:
The estate has drawn up a 24-year nature management plan with the primary goals of sustainable forest and nature management in terms of ecology, economy, and enjoyment. In addition to the family, there are many associations that use it regularly, such as Natuurpunt, MTB Liever Bergaf, MTB de Trappisten Boys, Wieler Supporters Club Oostmalle (International Cyclocross Championship), scouts, drop-ins, (nature) walks, film shoots and many others.
If you wish to use a part of the estate, please contact Mr. Lenaerts. Also download the usage regulations.
If you are looking for (fire)wood, feel free to contact the forester.

Agriculture:
Christophe Lenaerts, resident of Heihuyzen Castle and son of the late Godfroy Lenaerts, is a farmer by profession and cultivates the land himself. The land is used for both livestock farming and arable farming, with maize and grass as the primary crops. Work is being done on improving the habitat for flora and fauna. The water issues are also being looked at and addressed together.

Nature:
The Heihuyzen estate is known in Flanders and Europe for its highly diverse and high-quality flora and fauna. In 2014, the estate received the prestigious European Anders Wall Award. Information about the label can be found here.

The buildings:
The castle serves as accommodation for the Lenaerts family. For special events, the castle is made available. Contact us for more info. The barns and caretaker's house are rented out.
